Simplifying The Greenhouse

The great thing about trying new things is that you learn from them.  I wanted beds in my
green house to see if I could grow a winter garden with summer seeds.

I have learned that the seeds will come up and start to grow, they don't mature and put out any fruit. We all know there isn't enough sunny days in the winter, a grow light would of helped. That would been an added expense.

I have learned that heating the greenhouse is very costly.  It jumped our electric bill up $150.00 more than our normal bill would of been.  A hand full of seeds isn't worth that.

Today, I am removing these beds.  I have discovered they are full of fungus, bugs, roaches, creepy crawly things, and a mother mouse has had her babies hidden in the dirt.   GROSS!  Smart little critters found a warm place to stay for winter!

This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Talk at you later,
Teresa

Peach Tree is Blooming.

The buds on the peach tree are starting to open up.  This Saturday  we will have a low of 26 degrees.
This is the only night, the other nights are going to be in the 40's.  March is forecast to be above normal temperatures.  We only have this peach tree to cover, we plan to do all we can to protect her this weekend.

Our Leland  Cypress are looking great.  I planted 34 of theses between us and our neighbor about 3-4 years ago.  I know of a few folks who had to cut theirs down, because they developed  a disease and die.   I hope these don't get that disease. I am so tempted to plant white pines in between each of these just in-case.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Spring Teasing..

This is my peach tree, it is in full buds.  It is four years old  and it is old enough to put out peaches. Each year the freeze kills all the blooms, and we have not had any peaches.  We are waiting to see what this month and next month will do to it.  Maybe, we will get some peaches this year!?

Climbing rose bush is leaving out, everything is so confused.

Near 90 degrees in the greenhouse today.

I have really enjoyed slipping out to the green house this past winter.
A great place to sit and enjoy the warmth, and sunshine on cold winter days.

I have been taking advance of these beautiful spring days.
I am painting my rocking chairs and swing today. Giving my front porch a fresh new look.

This year I am going to have to replace my pillows for the porch.
After three years using the same pillows, they are in need of replacing.

So, a new look for the front porch this spring...Yay, I am kind of excited about that.

As much as I love springtime, in my heart I am saying this can't be good.  Spring temps in the winter?
Could this mean winter in the spring? Or very severe storms with tornadoes treats?

Simply remembering that
"This is the day that the Lord has made,
I will rejoice and be glad in it"

What have you been doing?  Are you having early spring like weather in your area?

Hugs, from the farmhouse.
