Our Wall Project

When we first built our home, we built a wall between the kitchen and the living room, because we felt that we needed a place for a fireplace one day.

After a while when the built-in fireplace didn't happen, we wanted to open up these two rooms and we removed the wall.
After we removed the wall, we found out that the flooring
was discontinued, and the hole in the floor sat for 4 years.
We did save the left over flooring but, it wasn't enough. About
a 1/3 of the flooring would needed to be removed to keep the pattern.

I really wanted to keep the open look and this is what we came up with.

We put the wall back and added a large glass window with grids.  The lower wall is nickle-gap ship lap. It cost more than we first thought it would, but it was cheaper than replacing the entire flooring.

It allowed the two rooms to be open while adding character to our home and it allows nature lighting into each room.  We love how it turned out!!

I can't wait to get new cabinets in the kitchen and windows across the entire back wall. I am not sure when it will happen, but it is on the list to change!

This single-pane glass was custom-made and so was the wood grids that are removable . I will not be removing them to clean because of how fragile they are.

It wasn't an easy project to do, because of handling the large glass. So, thankful the project is finished.

Let me know what you think!

  1. Great solution! I like how the window lets the natural light flood all the rooms of your living space.

    1. Thank you Wendi! So, do I. I love how it make the two rooms still open to each other.

  2. Looks great but this is why we keep extra of every carpet, tile and flooring we have.

    1. Thank you, yes we kept what was left over when we put the flooring down, but a third of flooring would needed to be removed in order to get it to look right. We didn't have enough flooring to fix it. I'm kind of glad we didn't I love this window.

  3. This is absolutley gorgeous Teresa!!!!!

    1. Thank you Stacy, it is even better in person.

  4. Looks so simple but really intersting!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a sweet note.
